Kiwame Tokyo's debut collection, comprising the Kurotsuki and Usuki models, is a testament to their philosophy. With a focus on removing unnecessary frills and hidden costs, these watches exude a classic elegance that's hard to resist.

The 38mm cases, inspired by mid-century dress watches, feature a sleek three-part construction with a vertically brushed bezel and a polished bevel. The dials of the Kurotsuki and Usuki are a delight, with a clear inspiration from the 1940s and a subtle Japanese twist. The glossy black dial of the Kurotsuki, meaning 'black moon' in Japanese, features brushed applied numerals and polished hands. The Usuki, translating to 'light yellow', boasts an ivory-toned dial with blackened numerals and a blued steel second hand.
And this is the part most people miss: the subtle Japanese influence is evident in the stylised Breguet numerals and the sharp syringe hands, adding a unique touch to these classic designs.

Powering these watches is the reliable Miyota 9039 movement, a Japanese-made automatic calibre known for its accuracy and ease of service. With a frequency of 4Hz and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours, it offers hand-wound and stop seconds functions, ensuring precise timekeeping.
A Modern Take on Tradition
Kiwame Tokyo's interpretation of the classic 1940s Calatrava elements is a refreshing take on tradition. The three-part case, coin-edge chamfered bezel, and military-inspired hands are all familiar, yet the addition of a light Japanese touch and a hint of modernity sets these watches apart.
The Price Point
Now, here's the best part: the Kiwame Tokyo Kurotsuki and Usuki are priced at a very reasonable USD 650. Considering the attention to detail and the quality of the case and dial, this is an impressive value proposition. The first batch of 99 pieces sold out quickly, but a second batch is scheduled for release in early November, so watch enthusiasts can soon get their hands on these elegant timepieces.
