Fitbit Labs Unveils Innovative Features: Unusual Trend Detection and Hypertension Study

As the anticipation for Fitbit's personal health coaching platform grows (previewed at https://9to5google.com/2025/10/27/fitbit-coach-preview/), Fitbit Labs is gearing up to test two exciting new features: Unusual Trend Detection and the Hypertension Study Lab.

The Hypertension Study Lab, as previously reported (https://9to5google.com/2025/09/29/pixel-watch-fitbit-hypertension/), aims to leverage Pixel Watch 3 data to detect early indicators of high blood pressure. This study is exclusive to the Pixel Watch 3, with this year's model excluded.

Fitbit is seeking up to 10,000 participants in the US to wear their Google Pixel Watch 3 for 180 days as usual. A select group of participants will also receive an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring cuff to wear for 24 hours, with a $25 gift card as compensation upon completion.

Google assures that the study might cause a "slight, temporary change in your watch’s battery life, but it should still last for a full day on a single charge."

Individuals interested in participating can access the Fitbit Labs page on Android and follow the instructions provided.

Data Usage:
- Wearable data collected during the study will be used to explore correlations and validate machine learning algorithms, not for individual health insights or assessments.
- Survey responses are utilized for research and to identify participants meeting the inclusion criteria.
- User profile information is used to verify participation in the study.

The ultimate goal of these efforts is likely to develop hypertension notifications for the Pixel Watch.

Additionally, a new Fitbit Lab is designed to provide early warnings if your health metrics deviate from the norm.

  • Log potential causes and symptoms.
  • Receive tips for rest and recovery.
  • Get notified when your metrics return to typical patterns, for research exploration, not medical guidance or guaranteed alerts.
